Hasegawa 1/72 Japan Ground Self-Defense Force AH-1S Cobra Plastic Model Kit E4 Description 1/72 scale plastic model. The Bell AH-1S Cobra is an attack helicopter used for supporting ground forces. The Cobra series was developed and improved from the UH-1 Iroquois during the Vietnam War. The front area of the Iroquois body was reduced to about 1/3, the pilot and gunner were placed in tandem (in line), and stabilizer wings were added to both sides of the body to enhance stability during high-speed flight and serve as a platform for carrying missiles, rocket projectiles, etc. The main rotor is a hinge-type rotor, designed to increase the speed and maneuverability of the aircraft. The basic armament is a TAT102 turret manufactured by Emerson, equipped with either a 7.62mm machine gun or a 20mm machine gun. High-precision shooting is made possible by the nose turret system linked to the shooter's helmet device. Additionally, the cockpit is equipped with bulletproof armor as it is vulnerable to attacks due to its relatively slow-speed low-altitude attack flight. The engine has been replaced with a Lycoming T53-L-703 turboshaft engine, and the power transmission device has been strengthened to accommodate the higher engine output. The increase in output allows for a larger payload, with a maximum payload of 8 TOW missiles, 38 rocket projectiles, and a 3-barrel 20mm machine gun on the nose with 760 rounds of ammunition. The AH-1S is also licensed-produced by Fuji Heavy Industries and deployed as an anti-tank helicopter in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force.
