This aircraft comes in a single-seat A-type and a two-seat B-type, with the two-seat type mainly used for training purposes. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force has taken a defensive posture against threats such as fighter jets and bombers with the F-15J interceptor fighter and against threats such as ships and tanks with the F-1 support fighter. As the successor to the F-1, this F-2 aircraft was developed through joint efforts between Japan and the United States. Originally known as the FS-X, this aircraft is based on the F-16 and incorporates the latest technology in its design. Its external features include a larger fuselage and wings than the F-16, an enlarged radar dome to accommodate a new radar, and a three-part canopy designed to handle bird strikes during low-altitude flight. The aircraft also uses carbon composite materials, which Japan is proud of on a global scale, in various parts such as the wings, resulting in reduced aircraft weight.
